Wherever You Are, You’ll Be Glad For Your Phone’s Gorilla Glass

Gorilla GlassI was walking around in London one day when I noticed the sun setting by Big Ben. I pulled out my phone to take a photo of it (instant Instagram likes!), and just as I was setting up the perfect shot, a group of loud, laughing tourists bumped into me. My phone slipped out of my hand and onto the ground with a loud thud. I’m pretty sure that my heart dropped to the ground right with it.

I slowly reached down to pick it up, afraid to see the broken screen I knew was there. I don’t have that kind of money to fix it right now, I remember thinking, plus I’m in England! I was so relieved to see that my phone was unharmed, but it made me think about the inevitable next time my phone will fall on an adventure like that. I use my phone for everything – it’s like a fifth limb at this point – and I can’t help but think I won’t be so lucky next time.

I looked into preventative methods for this issue, and I stumbled upon Corning® Gorilla® Glass 4. It’s the toughest cover glass yet, and it helps protect against drops and the damage that comes with everyday use of smartphones, tablets and notebooks. If you’re like me, your phone is bouncing around in your bag and you don’t think anything of it. But actually that kind of damage – scratches, bumps and bangs – is ultimately really bad for your phone.

A cracked screen is no fun, and I want to do everything I can do to prevent it. I want to use that money for other things. Corning scientists replicated common drop situations in their laboratory, and they created Gorilla Glass 4 – a cover glass that performs up to two times better than other competitive glass designs when they’re dropped from three feet high.

When you live an adventurous life like I do, you can’t be too careful with the technology that matters to you. That’s why I think Gorilla Glass is so great. The focus is on improving damage resistance against sharp contact, like the rough concrete I dropped my phone onto that day when I was in London. It helps protect phones from the drops that can come with every day life. Scratch resistant Gorilla Glass is on a number of leading smartphones and tablets – is it on yours?
