Bristol Promises a Great Day Out, Whether it’s Pouring or Sunny

Whether it’s raining or sunny, the people who promote the city of Bristol say there’s always something fun to do in this English city.  Lots of them are free, too, adds John Hallett, Managing Director of Destination Bristol. “Many festivals including the Harbour Festival and the Bristol International Balloon Festival are free, making Bristol an ideal place in which to enjoy a day out.”

There is a Holiday Inn at Bristol Filton Airport, (www.hibristolfiltonhotel.co.uk) which is a convenient place from which to access Bristol town centre via local transport links. You’ll also be right next to the air show with a front row seat!

At the city’s Harbour Festival, from July 20-22, there is no charge for visitors or locals to enjoy the live performances of artists, musicians, dancers, circus act and the big market and street stalls selling food, merchandise and souvenirs. Plus there will be many boats, ferries and yachts to gawk at on the water.

After the Harbour fest comes the Grand Pier Air Show, in Weston-super-Mare. Here the famous Red Arrows will put on an aerial display at 2 pm on July 23. Other world-class flyers will show off their stuff at the even as well.

Keeping our eyes trained on the skies, in early August it’s time for the city’s International Balloon Fiesta in Ashton Court August 9-12.  If you’ve ever wanted to see England from the basket of a slowly flying hot air balloon, this might be your best chance.
